Aleksandra obtained her PhD from the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Manitoba. Her thesis work focused on molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and multi-drug resistance, spread and virulence factors as well as vaccine effectiveness among Canadian isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae.
