Rachael Milwid completed her PhD at the University of Guelph in the department of Population Medicine. She studied contact patterns within the equine community and applied these to agent based models. She completed her MSc at York University using compartmental models to study HPV prevention and control strategies. Rachael joined the NCCID team (2016) to facilitate the infectious disease terminology standardization project.
After completing her postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University, Rachael joined the Public Health Agency of Canada in August 2021. Since then, she has used her mathematical modelling skill set in the development and analysis of disease transmission models of COVID-19 importation into Canada, mpox transmission, and other exciting projects. Dr. Rachael Milwid spoke to NCCID (2023) about her experiences and considerations as a math modelling researcher during the COVID-19 pandemic.
