Presentation objectives:
- To describe the features and management of delayed injection site reactions following administration of COVID-19 vaccines
- To provide an overview of the Canadian Adverse Events Following Immunization Surveillance System (CAEFISS) and the data on the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines
- To provide guidance on distinguishing these delayed injection reactions from other local reactions such as cellulitis

Speakers Biographies
Dr. Elissa Abrams is a Pediatric Allergist and Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Allergy at the University of Manitoba. She is an Associate Member, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy, at the University of British Columbia. She is President of the Allergy Section of the Canadian Pediatric Society and Head of the Anaphylaxis/Food Allergy Section of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
Nooshin Ahmandipour MD MSc is a senior epidemiologist and head of the Canadian Adverse Event Following Immunization Surveillance System (CAEFISS) at Vaccine Safety Section of the Public Health Agency of Canada. She has been with vaccine safety since 2002, co-chaired the Vaccine Vigilance Working Group (VVWG) for the period 2006-2016, and currently supervises the data processing/medical coding team and assists team members with any other COVID19 vaccine surveillance activities.
Dr. Joseline Zafack is a senior epidemiologist at the Public Health Agency of Canada working on COVID-19 vaccines safety. She is also a lecturer in the Department of Social and preventive medicine at Laval University. She has worked on immunization and infectious diseases at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval research center.
Dr. Gina Lacuesta is an Allergist and Clinical Immunologist who has been in practice since 2002. She attended medical school at Memorial University of Newfoundland, completed her Internal Medicine training at the University of Saskatchewan and her Allergy and Clinical Immunology fellowship at the University of Western Ontario. She is an Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University and has a private practice at Halifax Allergy and Asthma Associates. She is currently working with the NS COVID 19 Vaccine Expert Panel, and as the Adult Allergist with the NACI Vaccine Safety Working group.
