The Opportunity
The National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID) is looking to contract a bilingual (English & French) research assistant to help inform and grow a collaborative, awareness-building initiative on the growing public health concern of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Specifically, the RA will help identify Francophone public health and health sector experts within Canada (particularly in Quebec) who work in the area of AMR awareness-building and/or stewardship initiatives, and gather French language, evidence-informed tools and resources for professional and public audiences.
The qualifications and skills we are looking for:
- Master’s degree in a related study area is required (e.g. public health, pharmacy);
- Bilingual, French and English.
- French language fluency is essential (i.e. spoken and high-level reading skill necessary for comprehension of medical, pharmaceutical or scientific terminology);
- Familiarity with public health systems in Canada, particularly in Quebec, is required;
- Experience performing secondary research in a public health context is required (e.g. performing environmental scans and summaries of public health programs and resources);
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills, including writing in non-academic styles and formats, is required (e.g. professional correspondence, website content);
- Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of antimicrobial resistance and stewardship programs, particularly for community settings, or awareness building campaigns or communication strategies;
- Knowledge translation experience would be an asset.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager for Antimicrobial Stewardship, the Research Assistant will:
- Develop a search strategy to carry out a focused environmental scan of French language resources and leading experts in stewardship and awareness campaigns in French jurisdictions within Canada (minimally, Quebec);
- Conduct the search of websites and make inquiries with appropriate public health and/or health sector leads;
- Provide information to contacts about NCCIDs project and the collaborative Antimicrobial Awareness website;
- Consult with producers on any evaluation results and the evidence basis for their tools and resources;
- Summarize the scan strategy and findings (potential collaborators and leading resources) in a brief, internal report;
- In consultation with the project manager, prioritize and select several tools and resources for inclusion on the French Antimicrobial Awareness Canada website;
- Request and secure permission from organizational leads and/or communications officers to feature resources on the website;
- Draft website content, in consultation with source organization to describe the selected French language tools and resources, and refine the content in consultation with a French translator/ copy editor;
- Summarize any recommendations or feedback on the web page from experts consulted;
- Other related tasks.
Deliverables
- List of French language AMR awareness and education tools and resources identified in the search (i.e. Brief English description of resource, links to online sources, contact information for organization and individual experts);
- Summary / presentation of scan findings (format to be determined);
- French website content for selected tools and resources;
- Contact list of individuals and organizations consulted, identifying potential collaborators.
