Publication Summary
The Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) management tool provides guidelines for treating CAP among adult patients in Manitoba. The tool integrates antimicrobial stewardship principles for optimizing antibiotic use by incorporating current evidence concerning the choice of drug, dose, delivery method, and duration of therapy for CAP. The tool accounts for key patient factors, including comorbidities and risk factors for more severe illness, offering a balanced approach to CAP management that can also mitigate risks for drug-resistant infections. The tool was produced in 2024-2025 by the Manitoba AMR Alliance, with support from NCCID.
Explore the guideline and feel free to distribute it widely among clinicians. A poster with a QR Code for the guideline can also be downloaded from https://manitobaamr.ca/resources/ and printed for display in non-patient-facing clinical areas.
