In this webinar, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) in partnership with the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID), share updates on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), seasonal influenza and avian influenza, and present National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) guidance for these respiratory viruses.

At the end of this webinar, health providers will be able to:

  1. Understand the epidemiology of RSV, seasonal influenza and avian influenza.
  2. Describe available immunization products and current NACI guidance to help prevent disease caused by these respiratory viruses.
  3. Find resources related to these respiratory illnesses and COVID-19, including NACI statements and the Canadian Immunization Guide (CIG).

Moderator

Dr. Claudyne Chevrier, PhD, Senior Research Associate, Institute for Global Public Health, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba.

Claudyne Chevrier is a medical anthropologist, qualitative health researcher, and community advocate with a PhD in Community Health Sciences from the University of Manitoba. Her work focuses on health equity and harm reduction, especially around sex workers’ access to services and rights-based policy change. She currently coordinates the activities of the International Diagnostic Centre Canada at the Institute for Global Public Health, at the University of Manitoba, supporting interdisciplinary research and global health initiatives.

Speakers

Dr. Elissa Abrams, MD, FRCPC, MPH, is a Professor at the Department of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Manitoba and an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia. She serves as President of the Allergy Section of the Canadian Pediatric Society and sits on the Board of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. In addition, Dr. Abrams is a Senior Medical Advisor for the NACI Secretariat at PHAC.

Dr. Winnie Siu, MD, MSc, CCFP, FRCPC, is a public health physician and Senior Medical Advisor for the NACI Secretariat at PHAC, supporting the development of immunization guidance for influenza, RSV, vaccines in pregnancy and Indigenous Peoples. Previously, she worked on infectious disease surveillance and the COVID-19 response. Dr. Siu also practices as a family physician and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa.
